About Us
This page provides a host unrelated miscellaneous information that you may find interesting and informational. I will add additional text to this section from time-to-time, so check back.
Sales tax – The sales tax in Lake County is 7% at the time this is being written.
Weather -One of the nice things about Florida is the amount of sunshine available during the winter season. I have been a resident at Sandpiper for only a few seasons, but I have learned that the sun shines almost everyday. Occasionally there are days when it is cloudy for part of the day, but the sun usually comes out in the afternoon and shines for the remainder of the day. There have been only a few days when the sun was not visible at any time during the day. One of the somewhat unique aspects of our Park is that we are located in a narrow band of Florida where the weather enables us to have both the majestic Live Oak trees and the Citrus trees with their wonderful fruit.

The temperatures vary somewhat through the winter months. The average temperatures for Eustis, FL as reported by the National Weather Service are provided for the winter season. As you would guess, it gets very warm in the summer.

Avg Low 62 54 47 45 47 52 57
As you would expect, we have temperature excursions both above and below the averages. We get an occasional overnight freeze during the coldest months, but generally get by with a light/medium weight jacket. Folks who are here all year generally need the medium weight jacket, while folks visiting from the north might need only a lightweight jacket.

Utilities: Lake Yale Treatment provides water and sewer. Comcast provides Cable/Internet. Telephone/Internet is available through Century Link and others. Duke Energy provides electricity.
Pets - Sandpiper was originally chartered as a “no pets” park. That was changed and pets are now welcome, but with restrictions. Some of these restrictions include a 20# weight limit on dogs, no more than a total of 2 pets per home, pets are not permitted to run at large, and pets are restricted to the owners yard and designated areas. If you have pets, be sure to read the pet section of our Rules & Regulations.
Birds – I have seen a wide variety of birds in or around our park and as we have driven about. I am sure this is only a partial list: Sand Cranes, Ibis, Ducks, Bald Eagles, Owls, Egrets, Peacock, Turkey, Osprey, Woodpeckers, Vultures, Mocking birds, and Cardinals. Many of these birds are absolutely beautiful and are a new experience for those living in the north.
Fishing In Lake Yale - This section was originally intended to talk about human fishermen, but the other day we were riding around Lake Yale in our small motorboat. We saw a total of 4 bald eagles on our ride. I don’t think anyone would argue that they are great at catching fish. One sighting was a single eagle in flight; the second sighting was 3 bald eagles in the sky at one time. They seemed to be playing (or fighting), but it was indeed a beautiful sight. They were in view for several minutes and I was surprised at how fast they flew.
Park Upgrades in 2011/2012 – We have performed several significant upgrades. The largest project was upgrading our roads. Most were repaved, but a few were just sealed. Now they are all in great shape. The marina has been dredged to provide better boater access, but Lake Yale is low because of the general lack of rain over the last few years. The park office was remodeled and upgraded. Our tree committee has been active in making sure that our beautiful trees do not pose a hazard to our residents and guests. The clubhouse floor was refinished and looks great. A large screen TV and surround sound system was added to the clubhouse and the bingo machine was overhauled and upgraded.
